For these who want to add discovery and a bit of adventure to sailing, it is very possible to sail towards Tunisia and Malta from Carloforte in Sardinia or Marsala in Sicily.

Malta is a peaceful place, cultural destination a voyage in history, the meeting with warm people. Malta is a mixture of all cultures. Officially Malta republic, located in the centre of the Mediterranean sea, 80 Km south of Sicily, the archipelago contains Malta, Gozo, Comino and Filfola. Malta, is 246 km2. The total is 316 km². Main city; La Valette or Valetta. Malta is very barren. Le Maltese, official language is close to Arabic but uses a Latin structure and vocabulary. English and Italian are usually spoken. 

 

 

Gozo, is located north west in the Sicily channel.      

Separated from the main island by Comino, Gozo is the second island of the archipelago. More fertile than Malta, Gozo is greener. Victoria, the main town in the centre of the island is specialized in lace.           

Previously called Rabat, Victoria is fortified and located at the highest place in the island. The view from there  over the whole island is magnificent.

Impressive archeological remains bigger than Stonehenge, UNESCO classified in 1980.  

Comino with 2,7 km² is the smallest island; a few farmers live there. 

Tunisia The tunisian coast is 1 150 km long and marked by numerous natural ports and deep bays. For instance the gulf of  Tunis, of Hammamet and Gabès. The last one shelters Djerba and Kerkennah. islands.
The official language is Arabic but French is currently spoken.
